My Work as a Birth Doula & Birth Photographer In Berlin
I've always had a deep passion for birth work.
It began with countless hours on YouTube, watching live births.I was captivated by the process. It wasn’t long before I realized I wanted to do more than observe. Becoming a doula felt like a natural step—a way to support, educate, and advocate for individuals through pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.
I traveled to New York, where doulas have long been integral members of the birth team. Equipped with invaluable knowledge and training, I later returned to Berlin to begin my work as a birth doula.
Around the same time, my camera became an essential part of my journey. Capturing the powerful emotions and moments of birth felt like a perfect blend of my passions. It was then that my path as a birth photographer truly began.
Today, as both a doula and a birth photographer, I feel incredibly fortunate to be in this line of work that is so meaningful and fulfilling.
Birth is unique. It can be beautiful, magical, and instinctive, but it can also be challenging, exhausting, and even scary. These experiences don’t cancel each other out—they coexist. No two births are the same, and there’s no such thing as a "perfect" birth. A birth can be profoundly self-determined or unexpectedly overwhelming, and that’s completely okay. Because when it comes to birth, there is no right or wrong.
Birth Photography
From 3400€
As a birth photographer, I aim to capture the entirety of your birth. The beautiful, the heavy and all the small moments in between. You and your partner, working as a team; breathing through contractions; the many shifts when entering a new birthing phase. And then those exhilarating first moments when your baby is here, finally! Watching them taking their first breaths and holding them so close to you, in shock and awe of what has just happened.
I often hear that the photographs help to tell the whole story of the birth. The photos bring closure, explanation, evidence of what it took to bring your baby earth side.

“From the moment I met Pauline I felt a beautiful calm presence in her, having someone taking pictures at your birth is a very intimate thing! We called her at the right time and she came immediately. Because I felt so close to her she hugged me through a contraction in between taking photos, which was a nice moment. Pauline was professional, her being a doula helps in her birth pics as she knows how to hold space. Her pictures are breathtaking and I’ll treasure them forever! I’m so grateful to have had her capturing my daughters arrival.”

“When we made the decision to interview some doulas, we never imagined we would be doing such an amazing turn on our birth experience. On the first conversation we clicked, and we knew Pauline was the one. My husband feared to be left out but he says today that it was unfounded! Talking to her is effortless, and sharing my fears and ideas was natural! She treated all with respect, professionalism and honesty, making me feel heard and understood.
Pauline is warm and kind, and was so important on my journey. Having planned a natural birth, I was terrified of the chance of having a hospitalised delivery. She tackled all my fears beforehand, making me more open for change. It was of the utmost importance, since what I had previously feared happened: I had to be hospitalised. And she was there at every second, calming me, my husband, explaining what was happening. I can’t imagine how terrified I would have been without her help. Pauline detailed me the anaesthesia effects, how each thing would happen. She has amazing techniques for relaxation, massage (it really helped during the pain stage), aromatherapy, how to move so the baby will drop correctly, how to breathe and many more! And all of this is only about her doula work, she is also a fantastic photographer! I have beautiful photos from my baby bump, my birth and of my baby! I’m planning the next baby and I’ll want to have her from the start!”

FAQS
-
The earlier, the better. I only take a certain amount of births a month, so chances are higher that I’m all booked out if you contact me later on.
Booking me earlier means I can be by your side through your entire pregnancy and am able to answer any questions that come up during this time.
-
Every photographer has their very own look and style. The families who book with me know mine and want to be portrayed from my point of view.
-
I usually join in the second half of the opening phase. In general, when you’re dialated 5-6cm. But since it could be that there are no cervical examinations at all and birth seldom proceeds linearly anyway, it is possible that I will come along before that. Better a little early than too late!

A midwife is a trained medical professional who is responsible of all medical procedures and the well being of both you and your baby. A doula provides continuous emotional support and physical comfort that is concentrated on the birthing person (and their partner).
It can happen that - in a hospital setting - you will see many different midwives throughout your labour. As midwives often care for multiple birthing persons, they might only be able to spend a couple of minutes every hour with you. Your doula stays with you continuously. Having worked together during pregnancy, a doula knows you and your partner well and is well aware of your birthing wishes.
As a doula, I work alongside your midwives to create a good and stable birth environment for you, filled with confidence, knowledge and strength.
-
Absolutely not! A doula does not replace your partner but complements their role during the birth. Your partner knows you better than anyone, and their support is invaluable. My role as a doula is to guide, assist, and ensure that both you and your partner feel supported and confident throughout the birth process.
For partners, having a doula present can also be a relief. It allows them to participate at their own comfort level without feeling pressured to “know everything.” I can suggest ways for your partner to help, offer breaks if needed, and create an environment where they can focus on being present with you.
Together, we form a team to make your birth experience as empowering and positive as possible.
-
I will be wherever you are. If that is at home, a birthing center or the hospital. Even if you choose a transfer, I’ll come with you. I don’t leave your side.
-
In the first step, we try to speak to the clinic staff and obtain permission so that I can accompany you to the operating room. If we don’t get the permission, I’m happy to give your partner my camera in AUTO mode and edit the photos afterwards in my style. I will also stay at the hospital and will see you when you get back in the room. You’ll get those photos of the first moments with your baby nonetheless.
-
No, doulas are for everyone, regardless of the type of birth experience you’re planning. Whether you’re aiming for a natural childbirth, a planned cesarean, an induction, or are unsure of your preferences, a doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support tailored to your needs.
My role as your doula is to support your birth choices, without judgment, and to help create a positive and empowering experience, no matter the circumstances. Every birth is unique, and my goal is to ensure you feel supported and confident throughout the process.
I will continue to care for you and your family, with an epidural hospital birth, a planned or unplanned caesarean. I will provide you with emotional and informational support and will be offering my knowledge when it comes to body positioning, coping and comfort techniques.

I know Doula services might not always be in the budget, so I want to try everything to make this service possible for you. I offer, for example, the fee to be paid in many small rates.
An idea is to put the doula service on your gift registry. Instead of receiving cute little baby socks and onesies from your family and friends, why not ask them to ship in to a doula fund!
Another option is to find a newer doula that might not have supported a lot of births yet and is able to offer their services for a smaller fee. Do reach out, I’m happy to connect you!
